Inadequate Training Cost Lives. No recent story shows this better than the Mass Shooting in Prague, Czech Republic where 14 people were killed and 22 People were injured.
While the perpetrator was ruthlessly shooting at innocent civilians from a building terrace, he was engaged by a plains-clothed officer from street level. But because of the loudness of the gunshots, they panic of the people all around him, and the situation developing infront of him, the officer failed to hit his target a total of 3 times from a distance of 90+meters.
Because of inadequate training and preparation for a situation such as this, the police man involuntarily froze and shut down…rendering him unable to take out the shooter sooner.
This of course is in no way his fault as he had always trained with hearing protection which of course did not prepare him for the real thing when it happened.
And isn’t that what our training is supposed to ensure…namely…that we don’t have to guess how we’ll respond when trouble comes.
Failure of proper training for such incidents resulted in many more lives being lost than needed.
Incidents such as this are more common than we are led to believe, and because of this such institutions like the FBI has now integrated the gunSHOT BOX into their Quantico FBI Academy and training facility.
